Israel destroyed an Iranian drone factory in Syria. Russia wanted to buy them – The Moscow Times in Russian

The Israel Defense Forces launched a strike on a suburb of the Syrian capital of Damascus, destroying an Iranian drone factory. This is reported by the monitoring group SOHR and The Jerusalem Post.

SOHR sources said at least eight people were killed in the strike. According to their datathree people of “non-Syrian nationality” and two Syrians associated with Hezbollah died at an Iranian drone factory, near the Sayeda Zeinab area, three more Syrians were killed in air defense positions near the Al-Maza airbase.

Local media say the airstrike also hit military bases housing Iranian forces.

In July, US officials said Russia wanted to buy several hundred drones from Iran, including combat drones, to use in the war in Ukraine. US national security adviser Jake Sullivan noted that Washington does not yet know whether Tehran has sent drones to Moscow. He clarified that the US has “information” indicating that Iran is preparing to train the Russian military to use its UAVs.

Sullivan also noted that Iran provided similar drones to Yemeni Houthi rebels to attack Saudi Arabia before a ceasefire was reached in the region.

State Department spokesman Ned Price threatened Iran with sanctions if it handed over the drones to Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Washington’s assumptions about a deal with Iran a hoax and a ridiculous statement. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also denies this information.
