Rostelecom to be fined 100,000 rubles for leaking data of hundreds of thousands of Russians – The Moscow Times

Roskomnadzor drew up an administrative protocol against Rostelecom due to a personal data base leak. According to Interfax, a fine of up to 100,000 rubles is provided for this offense.

In relation to the company, Roskomnadzor drew up and submitted to the court an administrative protocol under Part 1 of Art. 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for the processing of personal data in violation of the law, which led to the leakage of customer data, ”said a representative of the department.

The Rostelecom employee database ended up on the darknet in early July. The telegram channel “Information Leaks” was the first to pay attention to it. The table contains 109,300 rows of data, which contain the names and positions of employees, corporate email addresses, logins and phone numbers.

Two days later, another database was discovered on the dark web, linked to a government provider. The source, who previously leaked the table of accounts of Rostelecom employees, posted the data of the clients of the Smart Home service. The database contains six files of nearly 713,000 lines, which include names, email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, IP addresses, and last activity dates.

The company said it launched its own investigation into the leak. A former employee who copied part of the internal telephone directory in December 2021 is being checked for involvement in the information leak.
