Ukraine will eventually triumph over Russia, but the future of the country, including territorial concessions, is a matter for the Ukrainians themselves to decide. This was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on PBS.
According to the results of a survey conducted By the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology last month, 82% of Ukrainians believe that Kyiv should not give up any of its territories as part of a peace deal with Russia. Another 10% of the respondents considered it acceptable for Ukraine to cede territory to achieve peace, 8% found it difficult to answer. According to the poll, 77% of Ukrainians living in Russian-occupied territory oppose any concessions.
In May, French President Emmanuel Macron offered to mediate between Kyiv and Moscow and advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to territorial concessions in order to “save face” to Putin. “It seems to me that this is not very correct on the part of certain leaders. We are not ready to save something for someone and lose our territories for this, ”Zelensky commented on the proposal.
