US to Offer G7 Countries to Tighten Russia’s Isolation – The Moscow Times

The administration of US President Joe Biden will present a number of proposals to increase pressure on Russia at the upcoming G7 summit. This was announced by a senior official of the White House, reports CNBC.

The official noted that Biden would also discuss with world leaders “the impact of Putin’s war on prices,” including rising food prices and food shortages due to the Russian blockade of Ukraine’s ports.

At the same time, he refused to elaborate on the measures that the US presidential administration plans to propose to the leaders of the G7.

The day before, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the G7 summit participants will discuss new restrictions aimed at isolating Russia from the world economy and disrupting supply chains for the Russian defense complex.

In addition, countries intend to take a set of tough measures against the circumvention of sanctions, Kirby added. The summit participants also plan to reach new agreements to reduce energy and food prices in the world.

On June 23, it became known that the international Yermak-McFaul group has developed a roadmap for financial sanctions against Russia. The document contains recommendations for increasing economic pressure on Moscow in order to deprive it of the opportunity to sponsor the war.

First of all, it is proposed to impose sanctions on the 30 largest Russian banks with state capital, the Moscow Exchange, the National Settlement Depository, the National Clearing Center, as well as extend restrictions to Russian officials responsible for financial policy.

In addition, Russia is proposed to be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism and blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF).

The G7 leaders’ summit will be held June 26-27 in Germany.
