Champions Trophy: The discussion of Champions Trophy has started once again. Although ICC has handed over its hosting to Pakistan, but it is not yet decided whether this tournament will be played in Pakistan itself, or it will be played somewhere else on a hybrid model. Its decision will be taken in the coming days. But in the meantime, let us tell you about that innings which is the biggest innings in the history of Champions Trophy. Actually, not one but two batsmen should be named in this case. Let us tell you why we are saying this.
Nathal Astle and Andy Flower played the biggest innings of the Champions Trophy
The history of the Champions Trophy is quite old. Although the ICC had stopped it in between, but now this tournament is going to be played again. The two batsmen who have played the biggest innings in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy are New Zealand’s Nathan Astle and Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower. In the 2004 Champions Trophy, New Zealand’s Nathan Astle played an unbeaten innings of 145 runs against the USA. This record has not been broken till now. Earlier in 2002, Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower had scored 145 runs against India in the same Champions Trophy. Andy Flower and Nathan Astle have equal runs, but since Astle was unbeaten, he is being placed at number one.
Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar also played historical innings
If we talk about the biggest innings of an Indian batsman, Sourav Ganguly’s name comes to mind. He scored an unbeaten 141 runs against South Africa in the year 2000. This innings also came during the Champions Trophy. In the year 1998, India’s Sachin Tendulkar played a brilliant innings of 141 runs against Australia. That means, from then till now, leave aside Astle and Flower, no other batsman has been able to surpass Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
The schedule of Champions Trophy has not been released yet
Talking about this time, it is said that the Champions Trophy will be organized from February to March. It has been learned that PCB i.e. Pakistan Cricket Board has prepared its schedule and sent it to ICC. But ICC has not officially released it yet. However, there is still a lot of time and before that it will be decided when and where the Champions Trophy will be played. But this time the focus will definitely be on whether these records we have told you are broken or still remain intact.
