The Afro-Asia Cup is a tournament that was last held in the year 2007. Can the Afro-Asia Cup, which has been closed since 2007, be restarted? And can Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah play with Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi of Pakistan? The report reveals that it is not impossible. However, this reality will require a lot of efforts to restart. Recently, major changes are taking place in the ICC. Jay Shah, who has become the President of the ICC, and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who will hold the top post in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), may take time to restart the Afro-Asia Cup with these changes.

can be reconsidered

According to Cricbuzz sources, Jai Shah had earlier discussed the idea of reviving this tournament. However, more work will have to be done to turn it into reality. Veteran ICC official Sumod Damodar told that there has been an attempt to revive the Afro-Asia Cup. Jai Shah and Mahinda Vallipuram (head of Malaysia Cricket and current ICC director) were involved in the process. Damodar, who was earlier in support of the idea of bringing the Afro-Asia Cup, is still confident about the plan.

The first season of the Afro-Asia Cup was played in Centurion and Durban in 2005, and the second season was held in Bangalore and Chennai in 2007. Initially three seasons were planned, but it could not be carried forward due to broadcaster issues. As per the new plan, Asian and African cricket boards aim to participate in three levels. First development, second emerging, and third top level. It will also include matches at the Under-19 level.

will have to face many difficulties

Damodar said the plan is still to be decided whether it will be annual or once every two years. It will depend on the calendar, future tour schedules, and international contracts of the players. Meanwhile, Damodar is busy with the CEC elections, in which he is challenged by two other candidates. His focus will be on representation of all regions and associate members and he is confident of making the Afro-Asia Cup a reality.
