Joe Root created a new history by scoring centuries in both innings of the Lord’s Test. Root scored his 34th century in Test career and with this he became the batsman scoring the most centuries in Tests for England. Root broke Alastair Cook’s record of 33 centuries. With the help of this century, Root also completed his 50 centuries in international cricket. Root has now become the 9th batsman in the world to score 50 or more centuries in international cricket.

Root played an innings of 103 runs with the help of 10 fours on 121 balls, due to which the England team was able to score 257 runs in the second innings. In this way, the England team gave Sri Lanka a mountainous target of 483 runs to win. Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne opened the innings for the Sri Lankan team chasing the target, but Gus Atkinson took the first wicket in the 8th over itself. Atkinson showed Nishan Madushka the way to the pavilion on the very first ball of the over. Joe Root caught Madushka’s catch. After this, Sri Lanka got the second blow in the 14th over. This time the wicket went to Ollie Stone but the catch was taken by Joe Root once again. With this, Joe Root created a new record in fielding.

In fact, Joe Root has completed his 200 catches in Test cricket by taking 2 catches. He has become the first English fielder and only the fourth fielder in the world to take 200 catches in Tests. Before Root, Rahul Dravid, Mahela Jayawardene and Jacques Kallis had achieved this feat. Now Root is just 11 catches away from the record of taking the most catches in Tests.
