Australia Cricket is scheduled to tour Scotland early next month where they will play a three-match T20 series against the hosts from September 4. Now before leaving for this tour, they have suffered a major setback in the form of fast bowler Josh Hazlewood who has been ruled out due to a calf strain. Hazlewood suffered this injury during training last week. After Hazlewood’s exclusion, Cricket Australia has also announced the name of the replacement player in his place.
Riley Meredith will be part of the squad in the series against Scotland
After Josh Hazlewood was ruled out, Riley Meredith has been included in the team in his place for the three-match T20 series against Scotland. Meredith, who played his last T20 match in the year 2021, has so far got a chance to play only 5 T20 matches for the Australian team. After the T20 series against Scotland is over, Australia also has to play both T20 and ODI series against England, for which it is expected that Hazlewood will be seen playing in this series. The selectors of the Australian team are also taking this injury of Josh Hazlewood more seriously as they also have to play a 5-match Test series at home against India later this year, in which Hazlewood is one of the important fast bowlers of the team.
Before Hazelwood, Spencer Johnson was also out
Josh Hazlewood is the second player in the Australian team selected for the three-match T20 series against Scotland who has been ruled out due to injury. Earlier, Spencer Johnson, who was playing in The Hundred, was also ruled out of this series due to a side strain problem. Now in this series, the Australian team has the option of Riley Meredith, Xavier Bartlett, Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis among the key fast bowlers.
Australia’s squad for the T20 series against Scotland:
Mitchell Marsh (captain), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wicketkeeper), Riley Meredith, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
