There will be a break on the fourth day in the first Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

The first match of the 2-match Test series being played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand is being played at the Galle ground, in which three days of play have been completed so far. At the end of the third day’s play, host Sri Lanka had scored 237 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in their second innings, in which they now have a lead of 202 runs. Now there will be no play on the fourth day of this Test match, in which it has been kept as a rest day. After this, the match will be played on the fifth day on 22 September and then on the sixth day on 23 September. After many years, a rest day has been kept between the Test cricket matches. The reason for taking a break between these matches was also told by Sri Lanka Cricket before the series started.

A break was taken due to the presidential election in Sri Lanka

On 21st September, elections will be held in Sri Lanka to elect a new President, for which the fourth day of this test match being played in Galle has been kept as a break so that the cricket players of the Sri Lankan team can also be a part of the voting. Two years ago in Sri Lanka, due to the public movement against the economic condition of the country, the current government lost control, after which now for the first time the presidential elections are being held there. Earlier in the year 2008 also, during the test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, a one-day rest day was taken due to the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.

The match reached a very exciting turn

If we talk about the Galle Test match, then after three days of play, it has now reached a very exciting stage, in which on the third day, New Zealand’s team was all out after scoring 340 runs in their first innings, which gave them a lead of 35 runs over the first innings score of the Sri Lankan team. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s team lost their first wicket at a score of 6 in their second innings, after which a partnership of 147 runs was seen for the second wicket between Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal. Karunaratne returned to the pavilion after scoring 83 runs while Chandimal scored 61 runs, while Kamindu Mendis was able to score only 13 runs in this innings. At the end of the day’s play, Angelo Mathews was playing after scoring 34 runs and Dhananjaya de Silva was playing after scoring 34 runs.
