ICC Test Rankings: After facing a humiliating defeat at home against Bangladesh, the Pakistan team is facing a lot of criticism. A day after facing a crushing defeat in the home Test series, the Pakistan team has received another big blow. In fact, after losing the 2 Test match series, the Pakistan team has fallen flat on its face in the ICC rankings. The condition of the Pakistan team has become so bad that teams like Sri Lanka and West Indies are above it. There are only 4 teams below Pakistan. In the latest ICC Test team rankings, Pakistan has slipped 2 places and has now reached the 8th position. This is the worst Test ranking in Pakistan’s Test cricket history so far.
The worst phase of Pakistan cricket
Pakistan’s performance in home Test matches has been poor since 2021. The Pakistan team has lost 6 of its last 10 Test matches while the other four Tests were draws. Its last win in a home Test was in February 2021. Before the Test series against Bangladesh, the host Pakistan team was at the sixth position in the Test rankings, but after losing 2 matches in a row, it has now slipped below the West Indies with 76 rating points. This is Pakistan’s lowest rating point in the Test rankings since 1965, except for a short period when they did not get a place in the rankings due to playing fewer matches.
Lanka and West Indies benefited
In the latest ICC Test rankings, Australia remains on top with 124 rating points. India is at the second position in the rankings. Team India is just 4 points behind Australia in rating points. England, South Africa and New Zealand are at the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. Sri Lanka and West Indies have gained 1 position each due to Pakistan slipping down 2 positions. Sri Lanka has reached the sixth position while West Indies has reached the 7th position.
