Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes that both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are different types of captains, who have their own specialties. He said that MS Dhoni gives the players a chance to learn from their mistakes, while Rohit Sharma communicates with the players and assures them.
Dhoni’s captaincy style
Harbhajan shared his opinion about MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in the “Find a Way with Taruwar Kohli” podcast. Where Harbhajan recalled an incident from the IPL when he was playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He told that during a match, when Kane Williamson hit boundaries on two consecutive balls of Shardul Thakur, he advised Dhoni to ask Shardul to bowl at a different length. Dhoni replied that paaji, if I tell him now, he will never learn. Let him learn by himself. Dhoni believed that players learn quickly from their mistakes.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is different from Dhoni’s
About Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan said that he is very different. Rohit talks to every player individually and assures them that they can do their job well. The biggest turning point for Rohit to become a better captain came when he started captaining in Test cricket. Harbhajan believes that in Test cricket, the captain has to make strategies more thoughtfully and this is what led to improvement in Rohit’s captaincy. In the podcast, former Rajasthan Royals player Taruwar Kohli compared Rohit Sharma’s captaincy to Shane Warne. He said that just like Shane Warne used to go to every player and tell them about their role, in the same way Rohit Sharma also talks to the players of the team and motivates them.
