A three-match Test series is being played between England and Sri Lanka. The England team won the first match of this series by 5 wickets. With this, they are ahead 1-0 in this series. Meanwhile, England has announced its playing 11 for the next match of the series against Sri Lanka. For this match, the England team has made only one change in its playing 11. That change too had to be made due to injury. Injured Mark Wood will not play the second Test match against Sri Lanka. He has been given rest. In his place, fast bowler Ollie Stone has been included in this match.

Got a chance in playing 11 after three years

England’s right-arm fast bowler Stone last played for England in the home series against New Zealand in June 2021. He has played only three Test matches for the English team. 30-year-old Stone has replaced Wood, who has a right muscle strain and is out of the entire series. He suffered an injury during the first match of the series. Mark Wood did not come to play on the fourth day of the first match of the series due to this injury. The ECB called up 6 feet 7 inches tall left-arm fast bowler Josh Hull in place of Wood, but he has not been selected in the team for the Lord’s Test starting on August 29.

The second match is important for both the teams

This match of the series is very important for both England and Sri Lanka. On one hand, the England team would like to win this match to win the series. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan team will be looking to get a level position in this series so that they can level the series 1-1 after the second match. England also benefited in the WTC points table after winning the first match of the series. In such a situation, they would like to strengthen their position in the WTC points table after this match.

England’s playing XI for the second Test:

Daniel Lawrence, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope (c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, Ollie Stone, Shoaib Bashir
