ENG vs SL, 1st Test: The first Test between England and Sri Lanka is going to start tomorrow i.e. 21 August in Manchester. Sri Lanka has announced its playing eleven for this first Test. Sri Lanka announced its playing eleven on the eve of the first Test, in which Milan Rathnayake is a new face.

Right-arm fast bowler Milan Rathnayake, who has not played any international matches, has an excellent domestic record. He has taken 81 wickets in 40 first-class matches. 28-year-old Rathnayake was earlier selected in the squad for the New Zealand series and Ireland series in 2023, but could not make it to the playing XI. Now he is set to make his Test debut. England ready for first test

England have announced their playing XI a day earlier. Both Ben Stokes (hamstring) and Jack Crawley (finger injury) will not play in the first Test due to injury. Crawley suffered a finger injury while fielding in the third and final Test of the home series against the West Indies, while Stokes had to miss the tournament due to a hamstring injury during The Hundred competition.

Durham fast bowler Matthew Potts is returning to the team for the first time since June 2023. Surrey batsman Dan Lawrence will open in the absence of Crawley. Yorkshire middle-order batsman Harry Brook has been made the vice-captain for the three-match series. At the same time, Ollie Pope will lead the team in the absence of Ben Stokes.
