The International Cricket Council (ICC) took several important decisions in its recent online board meeting. The most important decision among them is to start the process of electing a new president. The term of the current president Greg Barclay is ending in November 2022 after being elected unopposed, and the term of the new president will be three years. However, Barclay will remain in his post for a few more months. The date of the election has not been decided yet, as it has to be clarified first whether there will be any competition for this post. If two or more nominations are received, the election process can start in October. According to informed sources, the election is possible only if at least one more candidate joins the race.
Jai Shah can become president
With Barclay’s departure, the process of appointing his successor has begun. The current directors of the International Cricket Council (ICC) have until August 27, 2024 to submit nominations for the next chairman. The nomination process is a turning point for the ICC as it looks for a leader who can lead the organization into the next phase of challenges and opportunities. The name of India’s Jai Shah is also coming up for this post. Let us tell you that Jai Shah has done a great job as the Secretary of BCCI and President of ACC. The term of the new president is going to start from December 1, 2024.
Will Jay Shah be able to return to BCCI again?
Reports had suggested that Jay Shah could be one of the candidates who could take over from Barclay as the new chairman of the ICC. Jay Shah became the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019. In 2025, Shah will complete six years in the Indian board, after which he can take over as ICC chairman. Shah can return to BCCI again after serving in the ICC. Apart from this, the ICC has taken another big decision. The Women’s T20 World Cup which was to be played in Bangladesh has now been shifted to the UAE. The ICC has taken this decision in view of the recent violent protests in Bangladesh.
