The first day of the first Test match being played between India and Bengaluru was washed out in rain. After this, the next day something happened which no one could have even imagined. Batting first, the Indian team collapsed for just 46 runs in 31.2 overs. In this way Team India made a shameful record in its name. This is Team India’s lowest score in Tests at home. Earlier, the Indian team’s lowest Test score on home soil was 62 runs which came against New Zealand in the year 2021. Not only this, this is India’s third lowest score in Test cricket.

The New Zealand bowlers bowled dangerously against which the Indian team could last only one session. None of the batsmen of the Indian team bothered to stay at the crease. India’s poor batting can be gauged from the fact that half the team i.e. 5 batsmen could not even open their account. Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin were out for ducks. Only 2 batsmen could reach double figures.

Matt Henry made a unique record

The biggest contribution in destroying the Indian batting was made by Kiwi bowler Matt Henry, who single-handedly hunted half the team. Matt Henry dismissed 5 batsmen for 15 runs in just 13.2 overs. He made Kuldeep Yadav, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant his victims. In this way he completed his 100 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this milestone in the 50th innings of his 26th Test.

By taking 5 wickets in the very first Test match against India, Henry became the joint second fastest bowler for New Zealand to take 100 wickets. He equaled Neil Wagner. Both of them have the record of taking 100 wickets in 26-26 test matches. Not only this, Matt Henry’s 5 wickets for 15 runs is the most economical 5 wicket haul taken by a New Zealand bowler in Test cricket.
