India’s Akarshi Kashyap and Satish Karunakaran reached the round of 16 of the women’s singles and men’s singles events respectively at the 2024 German Open Super 300 on Wednesday. Kashyap defeated Polina Buharova of Ukraine, while Satish defeated his higher-ranked Misha Zilberman of Israel. Kashyap, ranked 43rd in the world, won the match that lasted 63 minutes against the Ukrainian player. The Indian lost the first game 21-23 and then bounced back to win the next two games 21-17, 21-11.

Meanwhile, Satish played a very good match against Zilberman. The Indian player, ranked 50th in the world, won the first game 21-18, but lost the second 19-21. Due to which the decision of the match went till the last set. The match became exciting and both the players were hitting each other shot after shot, but in the match that lasted 82 minutes, Satish remained patient and won the third game by 21-19.
Condition of other Indian players
Shankar Muthusamy lost to fifth seed Brian Yang of Canada 21-15, 18-21, 13-21 in the round of 16 of men’s singles. Muthusamy had qualified for the main draw after two wins in the qualification round on Tuesday. Apart from this, the mixed doubles pair of Asith Surya and Amrita Pramutesh lost to world number 14 pair of Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jamie in straight games 12-21, 14-21. The other Indian mixed doubles pair of Satish and Aadya Wariath also lost 21-23, 17-21 to Hong Kong’s third seeded pair Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet, while in women’s doubles, Swetaparna and Rutaparna Panda lost to the German pair. Lost 17-21, 21-10, 14-21. India’s women’s singles shuttler Tanya Hemanth also lost to Ratchanok Intanon 15-21, 13-21.
