Let us tell you, in the Governing Council meeting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last month, BCCI decided that Indian players who have not played any international match in at least five calendar years will be considered as uncapped players. The cost of retaining an uncapped player was kept at Rs 4 crore. Dhoni has also not played any international match since 2019. This is the reason why CSK has retained him as an uncapped player. Apart from Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dubey and Mathisha Pathirana (foreign).
CSK franchise has retained Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja for the highest price of Rs 18 crore each among the retained players of IPL 2025. Mathisha Pathirana has been added for Rs 13 crore while Shivam Dubey has been added for Rs 12 crore. Dhoni has been given Rs 4 crore as an uncapped player.
