Before the mega auction, all teams can retain a maximum of 6 players, apart from this the Right to Match i.e. RTM card rule has also returned. With this announcement, many major teams will now find it easier to retain their important players. It has also been decided to implement the Impact Player rule till the year 2027.
A franchise can retain maximum 6 players
According to the announcement made by the IPL Governing Council regarding the retention policy before the mega auction of IPL 2025, all the teams can retain only a maximum of 6 players, which also includes RTM. If a team retains 5 players, they will have the opportunity to use one RTM at the time of the auction. While retaining 6 players, the teams will have to retain 5 capped players and also include one uncapped player.
The auction purse of franchises was also increased by Rs 20 crore.
In the Mega Player Auction this time, BCCI has also increased the purse of all the franchises by Rs 20 crore. In which till the last season, all the franchises had got Rs 100 crore purse to spend in the auction.
Rules came for foreign players also
This time, after the meeting with the franchises, the IPL Governing Council has also announced a big rule in the retention policy regarding foreign players, in which if any foreign player does not register his name for the upcoming mega auction, then he will not be included in the next IPL auction. That player will not be able to register his name even in the IPL auction to be held next year.
If you refuse to play after being selected in the auction, you will be banned for 2 years.
For the past several seasons in the IPL, it was being seen that some players, after being selected in the auction, refused to play before the start of the season. Now a rule has been announced regarding this too, in which if a player is selected in the auction and then refuses to play, then that player will be banned from taking part in the tournament and will also be banned from the player auction for 2 years. Will be banned for this.
Rule also came regarding players who retired 5 years ago
This time the IPL Governing Council has again included an old rule in which if an Indian player has not played in international cricket for the last 5 years, then he will be considered as an uncapped player and he also does not have any contract from BCCI. Not there.
