Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the new chairman of the ICC. With this, Jay Shah will be the youngest administrator to hold the top post of the apex body of cricket i.e. ICC. He will assume his office on 1 December 2024. After Jay Shah goes to ICC, the post of secretary of BCCI will now be vacant. In such a situation, the question arises that who will replace Jay Shah in BCCI now. At present, no name is included in the favorites in this race but there are some candidates who can fill the place of Jay Shah. Let’s take a look at the potential candidates…
Arun Dhumal: Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal can be considered a front-runner to become BCCI secretary. He has a lot of experience in running the BCCI. He has been the BCCI treasurer and is currently handling the entire responsibility of IPL.
Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia: Devjit Saikia’s name may be heard by very few people but his name is also included in this race. Devjit is an important link in the current BCCI administration and is handling the responsibility of joint secretary. There is a possibility that he may be promoted and made secretary.
Rohan Jaitley: Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley can also be considered a candidate for the post of Secretary. His name is quite famous among the young administrators. He is continuously trying to promote cricket in Delhi. Recently, T20 League is being organized in Delhi due to his efforts.
Avishek Dalmia: The name of former Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya may also be discussed. Avishek became the youngest president of the Bengal Cricket Association this year. He assumed this post at the age of 38. Avishek is the son of former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.
Ashish Shelar: Ashish Shelar is the treasurer of the BCCI and a prominent name in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) administration. He too could be in the race. Other young state unit officials include Dilsher Khanna from Punjab, Vipul Phadke from Goa and Prabhtej Bhatia from Chhattisgarh.
