India’s left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat is set to make a comeback. Unadkat is going to return to Sussex for the last five matches of the County Championship campaign. He will join Sussex along with Cheteshwar Pujara in what will be his second consecutive season in county cricket. The fast bowler was not selected in any squad for the Duleep Trophy tournament starting on September 6, so he will be seen playing in the county. Unadkat will play his first match of the County Championship 2024 for Sussex against Yorkshire at Scarborough on Thursday.
Unadkat hopes for victory
Sussex has shared a video on its social media handle in which Unadkat has expressed happiness on his return. He said that he is very happy to be back here. Hove is his second home. The team is doing well this season and hopes to win in the second round of the season and return to Division One.
Last year, Unadkat joined Sussex for the last four matches of the County Championship and impressed everyone with the ball. He took 11 wickets and Sussex finished third in Division 2. His best performance came against Leicestershire, when he took six wickets in the second innings despite an ankle injury and played a key role in Sussex’s third win.
The coach expressed happiness
On Unadkat’s return at the end of the 2024 campaign, Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace said that everyone is happy that Jaydev is returning to the First Central County Ground for the final five championship matches of the upcoming season. In December 2022, Jaydev Unadkat returned to Team India after 12 years. In July last year, he was part of Team India’s playing XI in 2 Test matches on the West Indies tour, after which he joined Sussex for the final part of the first class season. He took part in three of their last four matches of the County Championship.
