Jofra Archer: For IPL 2022, Mumbai Indians had included England’s fast bowler Joffra Archer in their side. Although it was already decided that he would not be able to play IPL in 2022, yet Mumbai Indians bet on him, thinking that by the year 2023 he would be fit and play for the team. It happened exactly the same. He came and played for his team, but could play only five matches that season. After this he went out again. It is not hidden from anyone how dire the condition of Mumbai Indians has been in these two years. But now Jofra Achar has not given his name for the auction to be held this year. Let us know why and how this happened.

Mumbai Indians bought Jofra Archer for Rs 8 crore

Mumbai Indians had included Jofra Archer in the mega auction for a huge sum of Rs 8 crore. There were many other teams who were chasing him, but in the auction it seemed as if MI had decided to bring Jofra Archer into their fold at any cost. They came after spending eight crore rupees. After the year 2022, when he took the field in this year i.e. 2023, only 2 wickets were added to his account in five matches. According to one calculation, one wicket was worth Rs 4 crore. After this, when it came to retention and release this year, Mumbai Indians thought it best to release him. For Rs 8 crore, MI team can include another similar bowler in its team.

ECB did not give permission to Jofra Archer to play IPL

Meanwhile, it has been learned that Joffra Archer did not give his name for the IPL 2024 auction because the ECB did not give him permission for it. Since next year, immediately after the IPL, there is the T20 World Cup, which will be played in West Indies and America. Therefore, the ECB i.e. England and Wales Cricket Board does not want Joffra Archer to get injured again after playing in the IPL and after that not be able to play the World Cup. Jofra Archer has struggled with injuries in his career. He got injured while playing in the IPL in May this year. After this he has not played any cricket match. According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, the ECB believes that it would help in ensuring Archer’s return if he stays in Britain in April and May instead of being in India to play in the IPL. Archer has signed a new two-year contract with the ECB and the cricket board wants to keep him under full control ahead of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA in June next year. Now it remains to be seen which player Mumbai Indians will bet on after the release of Joffra Archer and not giving his name in the auction again.
