IPL 2024 champion team Kolkata Knight Riders i.e. KKR can take a big step before the upcoming season. There is news that defending champion Kolkata can make a big announcement about its captain in the coming days. Actually, KKR has contacted Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav to take over the captaincy of the franchise in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Surya has currently received this informal offer of captaincy from KKR but some big news may come out soon. This big information has come out in many media reports.
33-year-old Surya has been one of the best batsmen in T20 cricket for the last few years. After several consecutive seasons of explosive performance for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, he was included in Team India and then became the captain of the team in a few days. Surya is counted among the dangerous batsmen in the shortest format of cricket. In such a situation, there is a competition among many IPL teams to make him their captain.
Surya may return to KKR
Suryakumar Yadav has been a part of Kolkata in IPL before. Surya was in the KKR team between 2014 and 2017 and during this period he scored 608 runs in 54 matches at an average of 22.52 and a strike rate of 131.89. Playing his first season for KKR in IPL 2024, Surya managed to win the title. That season, Kolkata won the IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in the final played in Bengaluru.
After joining Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018, Suryakumar’s batting reached a different level. He did the great feat of winning the trophy with Mumbai in 2 consecutive seasons i.e. 2019 and 2020. Due to his brilliant performance in IPL, he managed to make his debut for Team India in the year 2021. Since then he has not looked back. Surya was part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024 title this year. He played an important role in helping the team win the title by taking a brilliant catch on the boundary line in the final.
