James Anderson recently retired from cricket at the age of 41. There have been very few bowlers in the cricket world who have displayed their bowling prowess in international cricket till the age of 40. This is the reason why Australia’s dashing bowler Mitchell Starc has admitted that it will be very difficult for him to play till the age of 40 like Anderson. Mitchell Starc has also given the reason why he will not be able to play international cricket till the age of 40 like James Anderson?
Starc has always preferred to play for his country and has rarely been seen playing in franchise leagues. Starc has won many big titles in international cricket with his team, despite this his hunger for victory has not diminished. Now his eyes are set on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Champions Trophy and Ashes.
No plans to retire yet
The left-arm bowler said that playing Test cricket is his first choice and revealed that he has no specific plans to retire from any format at the moment. However, he expressed his concern about the hectic schedule of modern cricket, saying that it is taking a toll on his body.
Starc told the Sydney Morning Herald that he has been very lucky to have had the opportunity to play all three formats for a very long time. He does not know how long he will continue playing. He admitted that the schedule of all three formats is becoming tough and it is becoming difficult to find time to take care of his body.
Stark is eagerly waiting for summer
He further said that Tests are still definitely a first priority for him and he feels that whenever the time comes, his body will play a major role in deciding retirement. He said that he is not a person like Jimmy who played till the age of 40 and had the skill to swing the ball both ways. He said that he has never been such a bowler and he is eagerly waiting for this summer.
Mitchell Starc is also very excited about the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India and compared this trophy to the Ashes. He said that for the first time in three decades, five Test matches will be played, which has made this series as important for his team as the prestigious Ashes. In the important series starting in November between India and Australia, five Test matches will be played for the first time since 1991-92.
