New Zealand team’s head coach expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the test match against Afghanistan.
A Test match was to be played between Afghanistan and New Zealand from 9 to 13 September at the Greater Noida Sports Complex, but due to rain on all five days, this match was canceled without a ball being bowled. For the first time, the Afghan team was going to play against the Kiwi team in Test cricket, which fell prey to bad weather. The cancellation of this match has disappointed the New Zealand team along with Afghanistan, due to which the coaches of both the teams also looked very unhappy. The non-occurrence of this match is considered a big loss for the New Zealand team because they have to play their next 2 Test series against Sri Lanka and India in the current edition of the World Test Championship and this match was considered very important from the point of view of its preparations. Regarding this, the head coach of the Kiwi team, Gary Stead, also expressed his disappointment after the match was canceled.
We missed the opportunity to prepare before the series against Sri Lanka
New Zealand team head coach Gary Stead expressed his disappointment after the cancellation of the only Test match against Afghanistan and said in a press conference that it is very disappointing for all of us because we were very excited to play the first Test match against Afghanistan. We have to play our next series in this edition of the World Test Championship against Sri Lanka from next week, this Test match was very important for us to prepare for that but now we are going to play the Test series against Sri Lanka without any preparation.
The safety of the players is very important to us
Afghanistan cricket team’s head coach Gary Stead also said on the cancellation of this match that it is definitely disappointing but we also have to keep in mind the safety of the players. The New Zealand team still has to play a lot of cricket in the next few months and we also have to play a ODI series against South Africa in the UAE. In such a situation, as much as we want to play, we also have to take care that nothing goes wrong.
