These 9 Indian players will become capped to uncapped players before IPL 2025 mega auction.

The player retention policy was announced by the IPL Governing Council on September 28 regarding the mega player auction to be held for the Indian Premier League 2025 season. While some new rules have been included, some old rules have also been returned. There is a rule in this which has come back and it will prove to be very beneficial for the retired Indian players or the Indian players who have not played a single international match in the last 5 years because now they will be counted as uncapped players instead of capped players. . In the eyes of all the fans, the biggest benefit will be to the Chennai Super Kings team in which they will now be able to retain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as an uncapped player. Apart from this, there are 8 more Indian players who will become uncapped and their franchises will benefit from this.

After all, what is the rule to become an uncapped player from capped?

In the new rule issued by the IPL Governing Council, if an Indian player has completed 5 years since his retirement, or has played his last international match more than 5 years ago as per the upcoming season and he is in the contract list of BCCI. If he is not included, he will be considered as an uncapped player instead of a capped player.

Sandeep Sharma

Sandeep Sharma, who is counted among the best bowlers of IPL, is recognized as an expert death overs bowler. Sandeep has been a part of Rajasthan Royals team for the last 2 seasons. Sandeep may not have retired from international cricket yet but he played his last match in the year 2015 and since then he has not played a single match. In such a situation, it will be very easy for the Rajasthan team to retain him as an uncapped player.

Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma, who has performed well for the Gujarat Titans team in the last two seasons, took a total of 27 wickets in the IPL 2023 season, while in the last season he managed to take 13 wickets. He played his last international match in the year 2015 when the Indian team played an ODI match against South Africa in Mumbai. Since then Mohit has not got a chance to play for Team India. There may not be much bidding for Mohit in the auction, but Gujarat Titans will definitely have the option to retain him as an uncapped player.

Vijay Shankar

All-rounder Vijay Shankar, who was a part of the Indian team in the 2019 ODI World Cup, also played his last match for Team India in this tournament. After this he could not return to the playing 11. The last season of IPL was not special for Vijay Shankar in which he played for Gujarat Titans. Now he is also available for retention as an uncapped player but there is very little possibility that Gujarat will decide to retain him.

Mayank Markande

Leg spinner Mayank Markande, who played his last match for the Indian team in 2019, has not been seen back in the playing 11 since then. Now in IPL 2024, he played his last season with Sunrisers Hyderabad team, in which he took 8 wickets in 7 matches. If Sunrisers Hyderabad decides to retain 26 year old Mayank, then they will now have the option of uncapped player.

Karan Sharma

After playing in the Test match against Australia in 2014, Karn Sharma was not seen returning to Team India’s playing 11 in any format. Karna played his last IPL season for RCB team, in which he managed to take 7 wickets in 9 innings. Whereas RCB will have the option to retain Karna as an uncapped player before the player auction.

Amit Mishra

Experienced leg spinner Amit Mishra, who is counted among the legendary bowlers of IPL, last played an international match for Team India in the year 2017. Amit was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants team in the last IPL season and he got a chance to play only one match, in which he also took one wicket. Considering Amit’s age, Lucknow is unlikely to retain him but now they will definitely have a chance to retain him as an uncapped player, in which there will be less deduction from the purse.

Rishi Dhawan

Medium pace fast bowler Rishi Dhawan, who played for the Punjab Kings team in the last IPL season, last played in international cricket in 2016, when the Indian team toured Zimbabwe. Rishi got a chance to play only one match in the last IPL season but he could not take any wicket. In such a situation, even though he will now be counted among the uncapped players.

Piyush Chawla

Leg spinner Piyush Chawla, who was a member of the 2011 ODI World Cup winning Indian team, still gives trouble to the batsmen with his balls. Piyush played the last season of IPL with Mumbai Indians team in which he took a total of 13 wickets in 11 matches. Chawla plays an important role for the Mumbai team in the middle overs with his bowling, in which he is successful in taking wickets as well as stopping runs. Mumbai Indians will now have the option to retain Piyush Chawla as an uncapped player.
