Many people contributed to making Sachin Tendulkar a cricketer, but the biggest role in his long journey to becoming a great cricketer was played by his childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar. Ramakant Achrekar, who discovered the biggest star in the world of cricket, may not be in this world today, but Sachin Tendulkar and his fans remember him every year on Guru Purnima.
Sachin’s childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar passed away in 2019 at the age of 86. Achrekar played an important role in grooming not only Sachin but many cricketers. These included Ajit Agarkar, Praveen Amre, Vinod Kambli and Romesh Pawar. Many cricketers earned a lot of name in international and domestic cricket by learning the tricks of cricket from Achrekar sir. This is the reason why the Maharashtra government has taken a big step for his important contribution to Indian cricket. The government has decided to build a memorial of Ramakant Achrekar in Shivaji Park to honor him. Sachin Tendulkar expressed his happiness over this decision of the government and shared this great news with the fans.

Sachin wrote on Twitter that Achrekar Sir had a great influence on the lives of many players like him. His life revolved around cricket in Shivaji Park. He too must have wished to stay here forever. I am very happy with the decision to build a statue at his karmabhoomi.
It is worth mentioning that Ramakant Achrekar Sir was awarded the Dronacharya Award in 2010. For his contribution to the game, he was also given the country’s fourth highest civilian award i.e. Padma Shri Award in 2010. Born in 1932, Ramakant may have got a chance to play only 1 first class match but he gave Indian cricket a big star like Sachin Tendulkar who scored a lot of runs in international cricket. This is the reason why the entire cricket world looks at Achrekar with great respect and associates Sachin’s name with him.
