Indian athletes are performing very well in Paris Paralympics 2024. India has won a total of five medals so far. At the same time, one medal of India has been confirmed in badminton. In the men’s singles SL4 category, Sukant Kadam defeated Thailand’s Teamarom Siripong 21-12, 21-12 to top Group-B and he managed to make it to the semi-finals along with compatriot Suhas Yathiraj. This was his second consecutive win in the group of three players. Sukant won a bronze medal at the Asian Para Games in China last year. Athletes compete in SL4 who have weakness in the lower limbs and who have minor problems with balance while walking or running.
Sukant Kadam made it to the semi-finals
After this match, Sukant Kadam said that this is my first tournament. I am very happy to qualify for the semi-finals. I was well prepared for today’s game. The first match was much more difficult than this. In this match, I was focusing on getting one point at a time. In the men’s SL4 tournament, only the top players from the four groups qualify for the semi-finals.
On the other hand, Suhas Yathiraj secured the top position in Group A. Due to this, he has also reached the semi-finals. Suhas made it to the semi-finals by defeating Hikmat Ramdini of Indonesia and Kyung Shin of Korea in his Group A. Both the semi-finals are going to be held on the same day, 1 September, at La Chapelle Arena. But it is not yet decided whether Suhas Yathiraj and Sukant Kadam will face each other in the semi-finals or will play separate semi-final matches. If they play each other, then one player will reach the final and India’s medal will be confirmed. On the other hand, if both the players play separately and lose the semi-final match, then they will play each other for the bronze medal match. Even then, India will get the bronze medal.
