Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh is seen in a new role after recently retiring from hockey. He was named the head coach of the Indian junior team in August, and has now been appointed the hockey director of new franchise SG Pipers in the Hockey India League. 36-year-old Sreejesh, who has won the bronze medal twice in the Olympics, has expressed his opinion about the Hockey India League (HIL). Which is starting again after a gap of seven years.
What did Sreejesh say?
In an exclusive conversation with India TV, Sreejesh said that he is not just a director but the brand ambassador of the franchise, assistant coach and mentor to the players. He told that many franchises had invited him to play, but he chose not to play as he has ended his career on a high note by winning a bronze medal in the Olympics. Regarding the return of the league, he said that there will be no problem in popularizing it, as all the franchises are enthusiastic about the game. He said that it is a good strategy that the league will be held at two venues.
The match will be played between so many teams
Sreejesh said that the league will provide a great platform to the players. Many players who have played in the league before are in the Indian team. It is going to provide a great platform for the players to play against some of the best players. They will learn leadership qualities and also learn to perform in pressure situations. The World Cup, Olympics and Commonwealth Games are all about handling pressure. Whoever does it well wins the game. Sreejesh also said that HIL will provide a great platform for the players, where they will be able to play against the best players of hockey. Let us tell you that the league will include eight men’s and six women’s teams, and it will be held in Ranchi and Rourkela from December 2024 to February 2025.
