The Indian cricket team has to play a 2-match Test series against Bangladesh at home from September 19, for which the team is yet to be announced. Team India players will be seen playing Test cricket after a long time. In such a situation, to test the preparation and fitness of some players, it was also decided to play them in the Duleep Trophy which started today, which includes the names of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant. The selectors will keep an eye on the performance of all these in the Duleep Trophy, but in the first day of play itself, Jaiswal, Iyer and Pant have disappointed with the bat, due to which the tension of the selectors has definitely increased before the Test series against Bangladesh.
Iyer and Pant’s bat not working is a big concern for the selectors
If Team India has to secure a place in the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25, then the next 4 months are going to be very important for them, in which they have to play a total of 10 Test matches. Out of this, the Indian team will get a chance to play 5 Test matches at home. In such a situation, a lot is going to depend on the batsmen. In the last few years, the middle order of the Indian team in the Test format has not been able to perform as expected. In which while some new players also got a chance, Shubman Gill was sent to number 3 instead of opening. However, despite this, no significant improvement could be seen in the performance. In such a situation, it is very important for the selectors to select the right players before the upcoming Test season begins.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing for India B team in Duleep Trophy, in which he returned to the pavilion after scoring just 30 runs in batting on the first day. Rishabh Pant, who is also a part of the same team, was also able to score only 7 runs. Shreyas Iyer, who is trying to make a comeback in the Test team, could not do anything special with the bat while playing for India D team and was out after scoring 9 runs. Apart from this, Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar, who made their debut in Test cricket this year, also disappointed with their performance. In such a situation, the selectors may have to consider giving a chance to some new players in the middle order.
Mushir Khan is one of the strong contenders to make it to the Test team
While many star players of Team India disappointed everyone with their performance on the first day of Duleep Trophy 2025, 19-year-old right-handed batsman Musheer Khan has definitely managed to draw the attention of the selectors. Playing for the India B team, Musheer scored a century at a time when his team’s situation looked very serious. At the end of the first day’s play, Musheer Khan was unbeaten on 105 runs, while a special thing about his batting was that along with showing better play against the fast bowlers, he also showed a very positive game on the balls of spinners, which can impress the selectors a lot. Because for a long time, the middle-order batsmen of the Indian team have been seen struggling against spin bowling. Musheer has definitely emerged as a better option in the middle order.
