Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has been appointed the head coach of the Washington Freedom franchise ahead of the second season of America’s Major League Cricket (MLC). Ponting is also the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals. Ricky Ponting has signed a two-year deal with Washington Freedom. Ponting, one of Australia’s most successful captains, will replace Greg Shepherd in the franchise. The second season of this T20 league will be played between six teams.

Ponting said in a statement that I am very excited to join Washington Freedom in 2024. Cricket is really growing in America and I am looking forward to being a part of Major League Cricket. Ponting said that he had consulted the owners of Delhi Capitals after receiving the offer from Washington Freedom as this IPL franchise has a stake in another MLC team.
Ponting told the Sydney Morning Herald that when I was first contacted, the first thing I did was call Delhi and that they had no problem with it. However, Delhi Capitals had no problem with this, which is a very good thing. Let us tell you that GMR Group, co-owner of Delhi Capitals, has a stake in another MLC franchise Seattle Orcas.
