Pakistan Cricket Board: Pakistan cricket is currently going through a phase of change. Waqar Younis was recently appointed as the advisor of PCB. But after this he also resigned. Now the Pakistan Cricket Board has taken a big decision. On Monday, PCB appointed veteran players Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik and Waqar Younis as mentors of the five teams participating in the Champions Cup domestic tournament.

Mentor will remain with you while continuing your sports career

According to a PCB statement, all these players (Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik and Waqar Younis) have been appointed mentors on a three-year contract. Saqlain Mushtaq is the former head coach of the national team. Misbah Al Haq and Waqar Younis have also coached the national team. The PCB said that the first tournament of all the former players appointed as mentors will be the Champions One Day Cup which will be played in Faisalabad from 12 to 29 September.

The PCB has made it mandatory for all its top players to participate in this 50-over tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board has not given any reason as to why Waqar Younis, who was an advisor to the PCB, is no longer in that role and why he is now a mentor instead. The PCB has clarified that Sarfaraz will play the role of mentor while continuing his playing career.

Pakistan cricket will benefit: Mohsin Naqvi

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was quoted as saying, “I am delighted to welcome five exceptional champions as mentors for the Champions Cup teams. These individuals bring with them a wealth of cricket experience, knowledge and expertise. With the game we all love. This will help the Pakistan Cricket Board to identify, develop the next generation of cricketers across all formats. This will not only benefit the Pakistan men’s cricket team but will also help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.”
