India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was seen bowling with a red ball during a training session in England on Thursday. Hardik also posted his video bowling with the red ball, which has fueled speculation about his return to Test cricket. This video of Pandya is now becoming increasingly viral on social media. Pandya has not played any Test since 2018 and has decided not to play in Test cricket due to fitness concerns. He underwent lower back surgery in 2019. He was requested to play the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia, but he turned down the offer, saying that he wants to focus on limited overs cricket for the time being keeping fitness in mind.
Important players of the team in limited overs
From the video posted on social media, it can be guessed that Hardik is trying to increase his workload ahead of the T20 series against Bangladesh in October, but he has not yet told the team management about his plans for red ball cricket. Since the World Cup final in June 2024, Pandya has played in two T20I matches against Sri Lanka and now his eyes are set on the T20I series against Bangladesh.
It may be a bit difficult for Hardik to return to red ball cricket as his fitness has not been very good in the last few years. Apart from this, the star all-rounder will have to prove himself with the red ball in domestic cricket to get entry into the Test team. Hardik is currently not playing in the Duleep Trophy. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether he plays red ball cricket for Baroda in the coming few months or not.
Away from Test cricket for 6 years
Hardik Pandya has played 11 Tests since his debut in 2017 in which he has scored 532 runs with the help of one century and four half-centuries at an average of 31.29. He has also taken 17 wickets at an average of 31.05. Pandya has so far scored 1769 runs at an average of 33 and taken 84 wickets in 85 ODIs. In T20I, he has taken 86 wickets in addition to scoring 1523 runs in 102 matches.
