The West Indies team is currently on a tour of Australia, where after playing a 2-Test series, it will play a series of three ODIs and three T20 matches. While the team was announced for the Test series, Cricket Australia also announced the team for the ODI series and rested regular captain Pat Cummins and handed over the responsibility of captaincy to Steve Smith. After winning the ODI World Cup 2023, the Australian team will now play its first series in this format, in which 4 major changes have been seen compared to the previous team.

Australian team’s regular captain Pat Cummins was seen playing continuously for quite some time, hence it has been decided to rest him for the ODI series against West Indies. Apart from this, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have also been rested for this series. Whereas Marcus Stoinis has been dropped by the team considering his performance. While Steve Smith will take over the responsibility of captaincy, it has been decided to include fast bowler Lance Morris in the ODI team for the first time. The Kangaroo team has also seen the return of fast bowler Jhay Richardson, who played his last match on the Sri Lanka tour in the year 2022.
Apart from this, Aaron Hardy, Matt Short and Nathan Ellis have also been included in the team. The Australian team has to play the first match of this series on 2 February at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After this, the remaining 2 matches of the series will be played in Sydney and Canberra on 4 and 6 February. A three-match T20 series will also be played between the two teams from February 9.
