There has been a big change in Pakistan cricket. Recently Mohammad Rizwan was made the limited overs captain in place of Babar Azam. But now former South African player Gary Kirsten has resigned from the post of coach of Pakistan. It was under the coaching of Kirsten that the Indian team won the title of ODI World Cup 2011. He is known for making excellent strategies. But his tenure with Pakistan did not last long.
Resigned within 8 months
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Gary Kirsten has resigned from the post of head coach of Pakistan’s ODI and T20 team. Kirsten has been appointed to the post of coach in April 2024 itself. He could remain in this post only for 8 months. Pakistan Cricket Board had recently taken away the selection powers from the coach and he was not even made a part of the selection committee. However, no statement has come from Kirsten’s side yet.
Pakistani team could not perform well in T20 World Cup 2024
Pakistan’s new selection committee currently included Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and Hasan Cheema, while the coach and captain were removed. Under the coaching of Kirsten, the Pakistani cricket team could not perform well in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the team had to be eliminated from the group stage itself. After this Babar Azam resigned from the post of captain. Then Mohammad Rizwan has been made the new limited overs captain of Pakistan.
Aaqib Javed and Jason Gillespie contenders to become limited overs coaches
Under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, the Pakistani team will play ODI and T20 series on Australia-Zimbabwe tour. Pakistan Cricket Board has accepted the resignation of Gary Kirsten. Jason Gillespie will now coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team on next month’s white-ball tour against Australia. In the coming time, Pakistan has to organize Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan has got the hosting rights of ICC after a long time. In such a situation, Pakistan will have to take a decision regarding the limited overs coach soon.
