SL vs NZ, 2nd Test: The second test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand is being played at the Galle International Stadium. Host Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lanka’s innings started a bit poorly. The team lost the wicket of opener Pathum Nissanka in the very first over. Nissanka was run out by Tim Southee on the sixth ball of the first over. Nissanka could score just 1 run. After this, Dimuth Karunaratne along with Dinesh Chandimal handled the innings and took the team’s score beyond 100 runs.

During this Dinesh Chandimal completed his half century. Chandimal hit a half century in 81 balls in the 26th over. With this he equaled a big record of Sri Lankan legendary cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya. Actually, Chandimal hit his 45th half century in Tests. With this he equaled Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of most 50+ scores in Tests. In terms of making most 50+ scores for Sri Lanka in Tests, Kumara Sangakkara is at first place while Mahela Jayawardene is at second place. At the same time, Angelo Mathews is at third and Dimuth Karunaratne is at fourth place. Then comes Dinesh Chandimal and Sanath Jayasuriya.

Most 50+ scores for Sri Lanka in Tests

  • 90 – Kumara Sangakkara
  • 84 – Mahela Jayawardene
  • 59 – Angelo Mathews
  • 55 – Dimuth Karunaratne
  • 45 – Dinesh Chandimal
  • 45 – Sanath Jayasuriya

Karunaratne remained 6 runs short of Rohit

After lunch, Dimuth Karunaratne was batting brilliantly at the other end but after lunch he had to go to the pavilion after being run out. He was out after scoring 46 runs. In this way, he missed a great opportunity to leave Rohit Sharma behind. If Karunaratne had scored 6 more runs, he would have left Rohit Sharma behind in terms of scoring the most runs in the history of World Test Championship i.e. WTC. In WTC, Karunaratne has scored 2558 runs in 58 innings of 31 Test matches while Rohit Sharma has scored 2563 runs in 56 innings of 33 Test matches. Karunaratne will now have a great opportunity to leave Rohit behind in the second innings.
