For the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), all the franchises have started making many major changes in their teams. Player auction process will also be organized in Dubai on 19th December regarding the upcoming season. Earlier, Punjab Kings franchise has appointed Sanjay Bangar, who played the role of head coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore last season, as the head of cricket development. Bangar has also been associated with Punjab Kings before, in which he was the head coach of the team in the years 2015 and 2016 and was playing the role of assistant coach in the season played in the year 2014.

Sanjay Bangar’s record as a coach was like this

When Punjab Kings team appointed Sanjay Bangar as assistant coach in the 2014 IPL season, the team had reached the finals that season, but could not succeed in winning the title. After this, when Bangar was playing the role of head coach in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, in both these seasons the team finished at the bottom position in the points table. After this, Bangar was appointed as a batting consultant with the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the IPL in the year 2021, but then he was appointed the head coach of the team in the very next season. However, in both these seasons the RCB team could not succeed in winning the title. For this reason, the franchise broke its ties with Bangar at the end of the 2023 season. Now after 7 years, Sanjay Bangar has again returned to the Punjab Kings franchise, in which he will be seen playing a completely new role.

Punjab released only 5 players before the auction

Before the auction of the 17th season of IPL, Punjab Kings have released only five players from their team, one of which is the name of explosive batsman Shahrukh Khan, whom they made a part of their team for Rs 9 crore. Apart from this, Punjab Kings have also released Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mohit Rathi, Baltej Singh Dhanda and Raj Angad Bawa. Punjab now has Rs 29 crore 10 lakh in its purse for auction.
