Indian Cricket Team: After the defeat in the ODI World Cup 2023, Team India is going to focus on preparations for the T20 World Cup 2023. This time the T20 World Cup is to be played in West Indies and America which will start in May 2024. Before this big tournament, a big news related to Team India has come out. It is considered difficult for a star player of Team India to play in T20 format.

This player can leave T20 cricket

India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to play T20 International cricket now and even before the start of the 50-over World Cup, he had discussed his future in the shorter format of the game. This information has been given by BCCI sources. Let us tell you that after India’s exit from the T20 World Cup in November 2022, Rohit has not played a single match in the T20 format. Since then, Hardik Pandya has mostly led the Indian team.

A BCCI source gave a big update

A senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of confidentiality that this is not a new thing. Rohit has not played any T20 International match for the last one year as his focus was on the ODI World Cup. He also had an in-depth discussion with chief selector Ajit Agarkar in this regard. He himself expressed his desire to stay away from T20. This is completely Rohit’s decision.

Young players will get a chance

Apart from Rohit, India has four opening batsmen in Shubhman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad and all have performed well in the IPL. If the young players are not able to perform well then the selectors or BCCI officials may ask Rohit to reconsider his decision. It can be understood that at this stage of his career, Rohit wants to take charge so that he can avoid injuries in the remaining career. Therefore, it will be impossible for him to play all three formats and in the IPL every year, whereas seven Tests are to be played from December 2023 to March 2024, due to which the Indian captain’s focus will be mostly on Tests. Let us tell you that Rohit has played 148 T20 International matches in which he has scored 3853 runs with four centuries at a strike rate of around 140.
