South Africa vs Afghanistan
In the ODI World Cup 2023, the 42nd match played between South Africa and Afghanistan on the grounds of Ahmedabad became a special record of ODI cricket. The South African team won the match played between the two teams on 10 November by 5 wickets. This is the first time in the 52-year history of ODI cricket that 200 or more matches have been played in a year.
Teams showed interest in playing ODI matches due to World Cup
Since the advent of T20 cricket, very few teams were seen playing the ODI series. However, due to the ODI World Cup being held in the year 2023, the participating teams showed a lot of interest, due to which the figure of 200 ODI matches was touched for the first time. Earlier in the year 2007, the highest number of matches in ODI format were played in which a total of 191 matches were played that year. Apart from this, 161 ODI matches were played in the year 2022, 160 ODI matches were played in the year 2006 and 154 ODI matches were played in the year 1999.
Sri Lanka played most matches so far this year
If we look at the list of teams that played the most number of ODI matches in the year 2023, Sri Lankan team is currently at the first position, having played a total of 31 ODI matches. At present, the team of India and Sri Lanka is jointly at the second position. Both the teams have played 29-29 ODI matches so far this year. Whereas the teams of Canada and Jersey have played the least number of ODI matches so far this year. Let us tell you that the first match of ODI format was played between Australia and New Zealand in the year 1971, after which till now in the history of 52 years, a total of 4699 matches have been played in this format.
