Indian domestic cricket’s prestigious tournament Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has started from October 11. This is the 90th edition of Ranji Trophy in which 38 teams are participating. All 38 teams have been divided into two categories. There are 32 teams in the Elite category which are divided into four groups, while there are 6 teams in the Plate category. In a match of Elite Group-A, Jammu and Kashmir team is facing Maharashtra team. On the second day of this match, a batsman has created a big record.
Actually, batting first, Jammu and Kashmir team scored 449 runs for 5 wickets till tea time on the second day. The 29 year old batsman played a big role in taking Jammu and Kashmir to this huge score, who created a big record by scoring a brilliant double century. The name of this batsman is Shubham Khajuria who completed his double century in 312 balls with the help of 24 fours and 4 sixes. With this double century, a long drought of 22 years ended.
A big miracle happened after 22 years
After 22 years in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, a batsman has succeeded in scoring a double century in Ranji Trophy. Before this, last time in 2002, Ashwani Gupta had played an unbeaten inning of 203 runs against Bihar in Jamshedpur. Now after 22 years of this innings, Shubham Khajuria has scored a double century.
In the history of Ranji Trophy, only 3 batsmen have been able to score double centuries for Jammu and Kashmir, which include the names of Ashwani Gupta, Kawaljit Singh and now Shubham Khajuria. This is the fourth double century scored by Jammu and Kashmir in the history of Ranji Trophy. Ashwani Gupta holds the record of scoring 2 double centuries in Ranji. Shubham Khajuria was eventually out after scoring 255 runs in 353 balls. In this way, he became the batsman from Jammu and Kashmir who made the highest score in the history of Ranji Trophy. He hit 29 fours and eight sixes during his brilliant innings.
