Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made a big announcement before IPL 2025. Lucknow has appointed former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan as its mentor. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka made this big announcement in a press conference in Kolkata today. During this, he also answered the question asked about KL Rahul’s future in the franchise.
Since last season, there have been speculations that LSG is not in the mood to retain KL Rahul. But now the team owner has surprised everyone by making a big announcement. Sanjeev Goenka said that I do not want to comment on speculations. KL Rahul is an important and integral part of the Lucknow Super Giants i.e. LSG family. Interestingly, this statement has come a day after the Indian wicketkeeper batsman’s meeting with Goenka in Kolkata.
After the crushing defeat of Lucknow Super Giants in the last season of IPL, a video of KL Rahul and Goenka went viral. In this video, the team owner was seen venting his anger on captain KL Rahul. After this, speculations started that LSG could make a big change in its captaincy and release KL before the mega auction of IPL 2025. But now after the statement of Sanjiv Goenka, the whole picture has changed. It will also be interesting to see whether Rahul will remain the captain of the team if LSG retains him or not.
He is the captain of the team from IPL 2022
Before IPL 2022, LSG had roped in Rahul for Rs 17 crore. This season, the Lucknow team made its tournament debut with Gujarat Titans. As captain, KL managed to take his team to the IPL playoffs twice in a row but could not make it to the finals. Before joining LSG, Rahul played for three IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings), Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. KL made his IPL debut in the year 2013.
