‘You have come with the country’s flag high’; PM Modi spoke to athletes returning from Paris Olympics – Hindustan News Hub

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian athlete contingent going to Paris Olympics 2024.

Paris Olympics 2024: This time the Olympic Games were organized in the French capital Paris from 26 July to 11 August in which India won 5 bronze medals along with one silver. A total of 117 Indian athletes went to the Paris Olympics. After their return to the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met them on 15 August and learned about their experiences. PM Modi told the athletes that you have come back with the country’s flag flying high and we do not have to think that we have been left behind but we have come back having learned a lot.

The whole world saw what you did on the field, apart from that what did you do?

While interacting with the athletes, PM Modi asked them that the whole world saw what you did on the field, but what else did you do. On this, star young badminton player Lakshya Sen, who impressed everyone with his game in the Paris Olympics, said that the tournament was very long for me and most of my focus was on my matches. Whenever we got time, we all went to dinner together and we met a lot of athletes there and we learned a lot from them, which was a big thing for us. I learned a lot from the atmosphere there because this was also my first Olympics.

PR Sreejesh was asked about his decision to retire

Indian hockey team’s experienced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh retired from international hockey after the Paris Olympics ended. When PM Modi asked him about his decision to retire, Sreejesh said that I was thinking about it for the last few years. I felt as if I had gone to the camp for the first time in 2002 and I have been playing till now. In such a situation, I had planned to end this journey of 20 years on a good note and that is why I have retired now. We were all disappointed after losing the semi-finals but we are also happy to win the bronze medal.

PM Modi said this about Vinesh

In a conversation with Indian athletes at Paris Olympics 2024, PM Modi also mentioned female wrestler Vinesh Phogat, in which he said that Vinesh became the first Indian to reach the finals in wrestling, which is a matter of pride for us. Our shooters reached the finals in shooting events. At the same time, PM Modi also praised young wrestler Aman Sehrawat and said that even with the difficulties of personal life, a person can achieve his dream on his journey and difficulties remain in their place.
