All the franchises have started their preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Everyone is also waiting for the announcement of the player retention rules before the mega auction by the BCCI. Meanwhile, former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has also returned to the IPL after a long time. Zaheer, who once held the post of Director of Cricket Operations of Mumbai Indians for the Mumbai Indians team after saying goodbye to professional cricket, will now play the role of mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team in the upcoming season.

Lucknow will benefit from Zaheer Khan’s experience

The last IPL season was not at all as expected for the Lucknow Super Giants team, after which there were apprehensions of a big change in the team. Now, with Zaheer Khan joining as a mentor, the LSG team will also get the benefit of this in the mega player auction. However, it is not yet clear whether Zaheer will only play the role of mentor in the team or will also be seen in the role of bowling coach. In fact, Morne Morkel, who was the bowling coach of the Lucknow Super Giants team last season, has now become the new bowling coach of the Indian team. Zaheer Khan has played for three teams in the IPL, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals (Daredevils) and Mumbai Indians. Zaheer has a total of 102 wickets in the IPL at an economy rate of 7.58. Zaheer played his last IPL match in the year 2017.

These legends are currently present in the coaching setup of Lucknow team

Talking about the coaching setup of Lucknow Super Giants before the mega player auction of IPL 2025, Justin Langer is currently in the role of head coach, who took over this responsibility after the departure of Andy Flower last season. Apart from this, Lance Klusener and Adam Voges are in this coaching setup in the role of assistant coaches. Lucknow had reached the playoffs in its first 2 seasons, but in the last season, due to poor net run rate, it missed out very closely on making it to the top-4.
