Dubai. Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar lashed out at Mohammad Rizwan after his Asia Cup final loss to Sri Lanka chasing a target of 171 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Rizwan was the highest run-scorer for Pakistan as he scored 55 runs but took too many deliveries (49) which put pressure on others. When Pakistan needed big shots, Rizwan tried a big hit but lost his wicket at the hands of Wanindu Hasranga.
He said that Sri Lanka had an absolutely ordinary performance with the ball as the Pakistan batsmen did not live up to the expectations in the title match. Akhtar also raised questions on Pakistan’s team selection and slammed Rizwan for not finishing the innings after spending time in the middle over. Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup 2022 title by defeating Pakistan by 23 runs in the final of the Asia Cup. This is Sri Lanka’s sixth Asia Cup title.
Pakistan’s defeat in Asia Cup final, Babar’s old tweet ‘This Too Shall Pass’ went viral
Akhtar said on his YouTube channel, ‘Are we playing with the wrong team again and again? Question marks are raised on Mohammad Rizwan as he cannot finish the game, he needs to be with others. He scored runs around the same number of balls he played and after that if he could not finish the match, then there is going to be a problem for the team here. So I think Pakistan has played very bad cricket, they should have won the toss and batted first. Don’t know what their plan was.
‘We are humans, mistakes happen’: Mohammad Rizwan disappointed by Asia Cup final loss
The legendary pacer lauded the Sri Lankan team for their efforts during his country’s tough times and called them the best team of the tournament. He further said, ‘Sri Lanka is such a great country, look what they are doing for the last six months. They managed to come out here and showed the world that they are the best in the tournament despite having teams like India and Pakistan. I am very happy for Sri Lanka, fantastic. I am very happy for Afghanistan, they also played good cricket, but unfortunately they lost to us (Pakistan).
