Babar-Rizwan opening pair going to break? There was panic in the Pakistani camp after losing to India
New Delhi: Former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur feels the team should split the opening pair of skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. He said that Fakhar Zaman should open the batting. After Babar and Fakhar Zaman were dismissed in the power-play during their Asia Cup Group A match against India, Rizwan tried to advance the innings but Hardik Pandya hit him with a shot-pitch ball, leaving Pakistan behind. Finally scored 147 runs in 19.5 overs.
With him not having much experience in the middle order, the responsibility of scoring rests with the top-order batsman and he could not perform well. Arthur said on ESPN Cricinfo’s T20 Time Out show, ‘I think they should separate Babar and Rizwan. Fakhar should take over the responsibility of the opener. These are different types of batsmen. Arthur believes that if Pakistan continues with the same batting line-up, they will continue to struggle in the coming matches. He said, ‘As per the plan ahead, when I was with Pakistan and we were doing well in T20 cricket, we used to put the batsmen who scored 160 runs first in the order. We used to build the best team and that was a good thing for us. Arthur further remarked that India brought in Ravindra Jadeja at number four to not fulfill left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz’s quota of overs. He dismissed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the middle overs.
