Big blow to CSK before the start of IPL 2023, Ben Stokes not fit, coach confirmed

New Delhi. Before the start of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a major setback. Actually, CSK’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes will not be fit to bowl at the beginning of the season due to his knee injury. Stokes was battling injury during England’s recent Test series against New Zealand. However, after the conclusion of the second Test, England’s red-ball captain confirmed that he would fulfill his IPL commitment despite the Ashes series against Australia starting just days after the IPL ended.

According to the report of ‘ESPN Cricinfo’, Ben Stokes, who has recovered from a knee injury, will initially play as a batsman. Troubled by frequent injuries to the knee of his left leg, Stokes could only bowl nine overs in two Tests on the New Zealand tour. England has to play the Ashes series against Australia in June. CSK batting coach Michael Hussey has confirmed that Stokes will not bowl in the opening matches of the IPL.

Michael Hussey said, “I believe that he will play only as a batsman. Will have to wait for bowling. Physios from Chennai and the England and Wales Cricket Board are working with him. I believe he will not bowl much in the first few matches. Hopefully can bowl later.”

Star all-rounder Ben Stokes was bought by the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings for Rs 16 crore 25 lakh in the auction held in December last year. He has come to India last week and has started practicing for this season starting from 31st March. Let us know that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play their first match in the tournament on Friday (March 31) against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the prestigious Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
