Legendary Caribbean opener Chris Gayle, popularly known as Universe Bass, playing for the Gujarat Giants team, showed the magic of his bat after 20 years in the match of Legends League cricket being held at Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur. Opening the innings for the Gujarat Giants team against Bhilwara Kings, Gayle first put on 40 runs off 28 balls for the first wicket with Lendl Simmons (22).
After this, although the Gujarat team lost the wickets of Parthiv Patel (1) and Kevin O’Brien (4) cheaply, Gayle remained on the wicket. Gayle later strengthened Gujarat with a valuable 70-run partnership with Yashpal Singh (58 runs, 37 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes). Gayle’s bat made an innings of 68 runs. He faced 40 balls and hit 9 fours and three skyscraper sixes, giving the spectators a sprinkling of relaxation in the desert.

Playing with Thisara Perera (19), Yashpal shared a 42-run stand for the fifth wicket. Perera faced 11 balls and hit one four and as many sixes. After Perera’s dismissal, wickets kept falling from the other end but Yashpal completed a brilliant half-century. Yashpal’s wicket fell on the last ball of the innings. He got run out. Batting first, Giants scored 186 runs for 7 wickets. Yusuf Pathan took the highest two wickets for the Kings but he spent 34 runs in 2 overs.
