Chennai. Out-of-favour Test batsman Murali Vijay in TNPL on Friday returned to competitive cricket after nearly two years. Murali played for Ruby Trichy Warriors in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) at Tirunelveli, about 700 km from Chennai. Although he could only score 8 runs in 13 balls and was run out. Murali Vijay was an old friend of Dinesh Karthik. Their friendship had soured due to personal reasons.
61 Test veteran Murali Vijay, who last played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Dubai in September 2020, did not play for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket nor did he play in TNPL last year. He didn’t even play in the local TNCA league.

Murali Vijay was last seen playing for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy in December 2019. His last Test for India was in 2018 against Australia in Perth. Before TNPL, Vijay had said, ‘I want to play for as long as possible. I took a break due to personal reasons.
He said, ‘I wanted to take care of my family. I am enjoying my cricket right now and I feel completely fit. Murali Vijay has scored a total of 3982 runs in 61 test matches for India. He has also played 17 ODIs and 9 T20 Internationals.
