England captain Jos Buttler is hopeful of his team reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, despite a Duckworth-Lewis method defeat at the hands of Ireland and a rain-washed match against Australia. England have only registered a win against Afghanistan in the Super 12 stage. They will now face New Zealand and Sri Lanka while Australia have to face relatively weaker teams like Ireland and Afghanistan.
Butler said after the match against Australia was washed out due to rain, ‘Look, unless something happens that is completely out of our control, then we are not worried. We know we have two matches to play. We want to win both these matches and put ourselves in the best position to reach the semi-finals.
All six teams from Group I are currently in the race for the semi-finals. New Zealand, England, Ireland and Australia have three points each while Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have two points each. “We know we have to do our best to keep our chances of reaching the next round alive,” Butler said.
