Fifa salutes Sunil Chhetri by putting a picture with Ronaldo-Messi, proudly PM Modi’s chest widens

New Delhi: The World Football Association has honored Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri by releasing a three-episode series on his life and career. One of India’s most successful footballers, Chhetri is the country’s top goal scorer and most match-player of all time. He has scored 84 goals in 131 official internationals since his debut against Pakistan on 12 June 2005, trailing Messi’s 90 and Ronaldo’s 117.

FIFA tweeted from its World Cup handle, ‘You know all about Ronaldo and Messi. Now know about the story of the third highest international goalscorer. Sunil Chhetri, Captain Fantastic is now available on FIFA Plus. On this tweet, PM Modi wrote – Very good Sunil Chhetri. This will bring more respect to football in India.

The 38-year-old captain is currently the third-highest active international goalscorer behind the game’s legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The first episode of the series will see Chhetri’s debut and the early days of his football career. The synopsis of the first episode said, ‘The first episode takes us back to where it all began. All led up to the debut in India at the age of 20. Close aides, loved ones and football partners help tell his story.

The second episode tells the story of Chhetri’s early days with the national team, realizing his dream of playing professional football. The third and final episode shows how Chhetri rises to the heights of his professional and personal life. FIFA also released a documentary on Brazil and Barcelona legend Ronaldinho and England legend Gary Lineker.
