Former veteran said on Suryakumar Yadav’s poor performance, ‘Give Sanju Samson a chance because…’

Team India won the first ODI by 5 wickets.
Australia won the second ODI by 10 wickets.
The third ODI will be played on March 22, Wednesday.

New Delhi. After India’s poor batting in the second ODI against Australia, Wasim Jaffer has suggested an important change in the middle order for Team India. The former Indian opener has fielded Sanju Samson amidst the weak position of Suryakumar Yadav in the ODI format. Steve Smith’s men leveled the ongoing series 1-1 after crushing the hosts by 10 wickets in Visakhapatnam. The entire batting lineup of the Indian team was struggling against Mitchell Starc. Especially, the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav was quite disappointing as he got out in the same manner in both the matches.

In the ICC T20 International rankings, number 1 batsman Suryakumar Yadav was shown the way to the pavilion without opening an account by Mitchell Starc in both the matches by LBW out. Surya failed to read Stark’s ball both times and returned to the pavilion after playing one ball. In such a situation, former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer insisted that it is difficult to face the challenge presented by Mitchell Starc in the situation of pressure. He also supported Sanju Samson to be given more chances considering Sanju’s previous record for India.

Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said, “We can sympathize with Suryakumar Yadav, because he faced the first ball, which was done at a speed of 145. There is no doubt that it is challenging when a left-arm fast bowler tries to bring the ball back in. Again, he should have anticipated that when Mitchell Starc bowls, he will attack the stumps and swing the ball. Mitchell Starc took five wickets in the second ODI to restrict the ‘Men in Blue’ to a total of 117 runs. He also took three wickets in the first match of the series, due to which India’s top order got a big blow.

Shahid Afridi appealed to India, ‘If you send the Indian team to Pakistan, then we will…’

On the other hand, if we talk about Sanju Sammons, he played the last match for India in the T20 International series against Sri Lanka in January. He was injured in the second match of the series against Sri Lanka. Jaffer said it remains to be seen whether the Indian management will stick with Suryakumar Yadav as Shreyas Iyer is also out due to a back injury sustained during the fourth Test. The seasoned veteran insisted that Sanju Samson should be given a chance considering his past record.

Wasim Jaffer said, “We have to see whether the management stays with him in the third ODI, otherwise giving Sanju Samson a chance is not a bad option, because he has played well when given a chance and he is a good player.”
